EXPERIENCE

Jerome Stanley is the Chairman of IMW's Global Sports practice.
 
Mr. Stanley is nationally recognized for his decades of experience within the sports agency business and for his knowledge in sports law. Mr. Stanley has been involved in historic transactions involving the NFL, the WNBA, and the NBA. He has led negotiations involving sports franchise relocations, served as the sole representative for Head Coaches in both the NFL and NBA, and operated as counsel for sports venues and national broadcasting enterprises.

Mr. Stanley’s early professional sports experience came when he was tabbed by Dr. Jerry Buss to be Assistant General Manager of his World Team Tennis team, the Los Angeles Strings. Mr. Stanley, working with his colleagues Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis and Lon Rosen, and starring superstar Martina Navratilova, helped lead the Strings to the World Championship of that league.

Upon entry in his law practice, Mr. Stanley made an immediate impact by negotiating a record breaking contract for Boston Celtics captain, Reggie Lewis. This Lewis contract exceeded the salaries of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird at the time of agreement.

Mr. Stanley again made history when he became the first African American to represent the top pick in the NFL Draft. Mr. Stanley guided this client, Keyshawn Johnson of the New York Jets, to be the only Wide Receiver chosen with the first pick in the last 40 years. 

​

Throughout this period, Mr. Stanley helped spearhead the effort to return an NFL Franchise to Los Angeles, working directly with Commissioner Roger Goddell, the Mayor of Los Angeles and various business leaders in the community.

Mr. Stanley was instrumental to the birth of the WNBA by guiding the first pick in league history, current Naismith Hall of Famer Tina Thompson, to that league over the well funded competing league, the ABL.  This decision helped change the face of women’s professional basketball in the United States.

By representing Head Coaches in both the NFL and NBA, Todd Haley of the Kansas City Chiefs and Brian Shaw of the Denver Nuggets, Mr. Stanley became the only professional to ever represent the first pick in the NFL Draft, a “max” NBA contract player (Baron Davis) and a Head Coach in each league.

More recently, Mr. Stanley was tabbed by the Estate of Michael Jackson to lead the development of the International Michael Jackson Museum.

Mr. Stanley has just concluded a term as Special Advisor for Agent Affairs, hired by the NFLPA. In this unique engagement, the NFLPA turned to Mr. Stanley to counsel and advise the player’s union on ways to improve its engagement, communication and regulation of the entire U.S. NFL football agent community.  Client acquisition model and the expanding role of NIL were large parts of this engagement. 

Mr. Stanley earned his J.D. from USC Gould School of Law and his B.S. from USC Marshall School of Business.
